3、or determining theability of pressure-sensitive tapes and labels to remain adheredunder constant load applied parallel to the surface of the tapeand substrate.1.1.1 Procedure A measures the shear adhesion when ap-plied to a vertical standard steel panel.1.1.2 Procedure B measures the shear adhesion

4、when ap-plied to vertical panel covered with NIST SRM 1810Astandard berboard.1.1.3 Procedure C measures the shear adhesion when ap-pliedtoaverticalpanelcoveredwithaberboardasdenedbyComite Europeen de Normalisation(CEN).1.1.4 Procedure D measures shear adhesion when applied toa vertical panel covered

5、 with a berboard agreed upon by thebuyer and seller.1.1.5 Procedure E measures shear adhesion of lamentreinforced tape when applied to a horizontal standard steelpanel.1.1.6 Procedure F measures shear adhesion of a lamentreinforced tape when applied to a horizontal panel coveredwith NIST SRM 1810A s

6、tandard berboard.1.1.7 ProcedureGmeasurestheshearadhesionofalamentreinforced tape when applied to a horizontal panel coveredwith a standard berboard dened by CEN.1.1.8 Procedure H measures the shear adhesion the same asProcedure A except the test is conducted at an elevatedtemperature and after a 10

7、-min dwell time at the elevatedtemperature.1.2 These procedures provide a means of assessing theuniformity of the adhesive of a given type of pressure-sensitivetape,usually tapes used for packaging applications.Theassessment may be within a roll of tape,between rolls orproduction lots.1.2.1 Variatio

8、ns in the tape backing and adhesive affect theresponse;therefore,these procedures cannot be used to pin-point the specic cause(s)of nonuniformity.1.2.2 This test method is intended to replace AFERA 4012,CEN 1943,and PSTC(see 7.2).1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be

9、regarded separately as standard.The values stated ineach system are not be exact equivalents;therefore,eachsystem shall be used independently of the other.Combiningvalues from the two systems will result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafe

23、 controlledroll down.The panel is mounted horizontally,tape side up,withthefreeendofthetapeallowedtohangverticallyovertheround end of the panel.Astandard mass is attached to the freeend of the tape and allowed to act for a specied time.3.7 Procedure G,Shear Adhesion of a Filament ReinforcedTape to a

24、 CEN Standard FiberboardA strip of lamentreinforced tape is applied to a panel covered with CENstandard berboard under controlled roll down.The panel ismountedhorizontally,tapesideup,withthefreeendofthetapeallowed to hang vertically over the round end of the panel.Astandard mass is attached to the f

25、ree end of the tape andallowed to act for the specied time.3.8 ProcedureHThis procedure is conducted as describedin Procedure A except the test is conducted at an elevatedtemperature after a 10-min dwell time at the elevated tempera-ture.3.9 For Procedures A,B,C,D,and H the preferredspecimen size is

26、 12 by 12 mm 0.5 by 0.5 in.Aspecimen sizeof 24 by 24 mm 1 by 1 in.may be specied.3.10 For Procedures E,F and G the specimen width shall be12 mm 0.5 in.For testing reinforced lament by ProcedureH,the width shall be 12 mm 0.5 in.4.Signicance and Use4.1 ProcedureAmeasures the ability of a pressure-sens

27、itivetape to adhere to a standard steel panel under constant stress.This may or may not relate to the ability of the tape to adhereto other surfaces.4.2 Procedures B,C,and D may be used to determine theshear adhesion of the tapes generally used to close berboardboxes in packaging applications.4.3 Pr

28、ocedure D measures the shear adhesion of a pressure-sensitive tape to a nonstandard berboard,liner board,corru-gated board,or other surfaces which is agreed upon for testing.This may be used to compare the shear adhesion of a tape to aparticular berboard surface or to compare the shear adhesionof a

29、tape to a variety of berboard surfaces.4.3.1 The surfaces of similar berboards may exhibit con-siderable variation between mills,between batches from onemill,and within batches.Take care in the choice of samplesandwhencomparingresultsbetweenberboardsurfaceswhichmay not be exactly the same.4.3.2 The

30、precision of tests conducted on nonstandardsurfaces may be different than that described in Section 13.4.4 Procedures E,F,and G may be used to determine theability of a lament reinforced tape to hold when placed underconstant stress.4.5 ProcedureHmaybeusedtocomparetheshearadhesionof tape applied to

31、a standard steel surface and tested at anelevated temperature.The use of an elevated temperatureduring test tends to reduce the duration of the test.5.Apparatus5.1 Specimen Cutter5,6,7The specimen cutter shall holdtwo single-edge razor blades in parallel planes,a precisedistance apart,to form a cutt
